The Context Test                                               The Lamb's City---PDF

The context test consists of examining the immediate context of a word, phrase, sentence, or verse with consideration of what is written that immediately precedes and follows it.  The relationship of these discourse parts are what give light to its meaning and the correct understanding of what the author is saying.

The Harmony Test

The harmony test is the guarantee that when a passage of God's Word is correctly understood (rightly divided) in its context that it will never contradict itself anywhere else in Scripture.

Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
